It’s been a year and a half since the PS5 was first released, yet we’re all still here, clinging on to the dream of owning one of the elusive consoles.
Shelves remain barren and empty, and restocks still come and go in the blink of an eye thanks to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage sparked by the coronavirus pandemic. This has meant consoles are still tricky to get hold of, both online and in-store.
But the situation is getting better – slowly. April was one of the best months for restocks since the start of 2022, seeing 21 drops take place in total, We saw restocks from PlayStation Direct, ShopTo, Currys, Argos, AO, Game, Smyths Toys, Very and many more independent retailers to boot As we inch closer to summer, we’re hoping May will continue that momentum, though it’s looking doubtful at the moment.
Still on the hunt? Our liveblog is here to get you one of Sony’s elusive next-gen consoles, as well as provide you with the details on the best games and accessories to grab alongside your new machine, plus the latest game reviews. If you want to find out which online retailers will be the first to restock, then keep scrolling to receive updates as they happen.

PS Direct is the best place to buy a standalone PS5 console
The digital edition console at PlayStation Direct has now sold out, but the PS5 disc edition console is still in stock.
Just a friendly reminder – the PS5 is rarely ever sold on its own, with most retailers opting to bundle it with games and accessories for a premium, making PS Direct one of the best place to buy the console.

How does the PS Direct PS5 queue work?
When we all get past the PlayStation Direct waiting room in approximately four minutes time we’re going to be greeted with another queue. This one is the real one, and you’ll get an actual queue position with an estimation of how long it will take before you’re at the front and able to start ordering your PS5.
The time estimation is always wildly inaccurate when the queue first opens, however, so don’t trust it when it says “more than an hour”. It gets more accurate after the first five minutes. These will go quickly, assuming most of them were scooped up prior to the general sale drop about to take place.
Remember, you’ll need your PSN credentials at hand, as well as your credit card details, so get those ready.

The PS5 is now in stock at PS Direct
The PS5 is now in stock at PlayStation Direct. There is a waiting room at the moment, so you’ve still got time to get in there before the buying gets started.
Luckily, it’s not first come first serve like a lot of other retailers. You get given a random unique ID in the waiting room, meaning you don’t know what position in the queue you’ll be in when the consoles drop. Take that, scalpers!

PlayStation Direct is set to restock later this morning
If you’ve had absolutely enough of the Argos website and want to try something slightly easier, then Sony’s official PlayStation Direct store is set to restock the console later this morning, as we predicted yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon, customers who had registered their interest for a PS5 on the PS Direct website received email invitations inviting them to take part in an exclusive PS5 drop between 9.30am and 11am.
Once the window closes, Sony opens up the sale to everyone else, so you’ll have a chance to buy the console just after 11am. Didn’t register your interest? You won’t be getting an invitation now, but it’s worth signing up for next time.

There are still consoles available at Argos
We’ve been playing a game of Worldle on the Argos website. Except, you don’t have the outline of a country to guide you and the correct answer keeps changing its mind. OK, it’s basically just a game of “enter in a random city or town and hope you win”.
We’ve just seen that the console is still in stock at the Workington Argos branch, but that’s the only one we’ve struck gold with so far. Do remember though that the PS5 comes in and out of stock, so it’s worth entering and re-entering your city of choice. good luck!

Very could restock the PS5 today
Struggling with the Argos restock? We’re not surprised, trying to get a PS5 using Argos’s atrocious website is a bit of a nightmare. If only it used a similar system to Smyths Toys and listed all its stores with the number of consoles available, eh? We can only dream.
So who is more reliable than Argos and could drop today? Very, though the chance of a restock is slim. Very drops almost always take place on a Tuesday morning. We roughly see Very restock every 3-6 weeks, and the last restock took place on 20 April.

Another Argos PS5 stock tip
This is a high risk method of securing the PS5 from Argos, and that’s by physically heading in-store to your local branch. Argos drops are always click and collect, and the retailer usually allows customers to walk in and order directly from one of its tablets. If you’re really struggling, well, it’s another method to try.
Still trying online? Just keep refreshing the page. Argos toggles the out of stock message when its website gets overloaded with traffic so that it doesn’t oversell consoles it doesn’t physically have. On another note, we’ve just seen a bunch of Birmingham stores go live with the PS5.

How to buy the PS5 from Argos
The PS5 is still in stock at Argos. We know this because the retailer’s main landing page still shows the “add to trolley” button underneath the PS5 disc edition console, while the digital edition console shows “more details”. This means that it’s still in stock, though perhaps not for your location – right now at least.
So how do you buy it? Look, Argos’s website is absolutely awful. There’s no real way of checking stock in other locations other than entering in random postcodes. But, there is a much more reliable way of securing the console, and that’s through the Argos app. Throughout history (well, a year of tracking PS5 stock), we’ve consistently seen people successfully secure the console by checking out through the Argos app.

The PS5 is now in stock at Argos
Gooooooooooood morning folks and what a glorious morning it is. As we predicted, the PS5 is now in stock at Argos.
As usual, it’s a region by region drop, so you might see one store go live before yours and all you can do is refresh the page. Only the disc edition PS5 console is currently available to buy, not the digital edition console.
Reports suggest that Argos started dropping the PS5 at around 12.30am this morning, so the restock started fairly early. Most stores went live at around 8.30am however, so you’ve still got time if your store hasn’t gone green just yet.
Argos restocks aren’t the easiest to get your head around, so we’ll be handing out some tips in our next few posts.
